UPDATE — Altus Police Chief Tim Murphy updated the story of a man found dead in Tillman County Aug. 22.
Altus police have arrested a fourth person in connection with the Aug. 20 shooting death of 32-year-old Jared Allen Holmes. An arrest warrant was issued late Wednesday afternoon for 37-year-old Melisha Ann Torres on charges of first degree murder and conspiracy.
Torres has been held at the Jackson County Jail since Aug. 21 on unrelated charges. Torres originally reported the homicide to police Aug. 21. Investigators now believe Torres assisted in setting up a drug deal in which the suspect, Marielle Trey Smith, had intended to rob the victim and Torres knew that a robbery would take place.
Investigators believe Holmes was shot and killed on Aug. 20 at about 9 p.m. After the murder, Smith, his girlfriend Ryan McKenzie Fields and a third suspect, Marquis Deshawn Johnson, assisted in removing the body from the murder scene at 408 North Julian St., the home of Torres. Holmes’ body was discovered on Aug. 22 on a rural road in Tillman County near Frederick. Smith and Fields were arrested in Oklahoma City on Sept. 7 and Johnson was arrested in Lawton on Sept. 12 for accessory after the fact and unlawful removal of a dead body.
Investigators believe Smith and Fields drove to Lawton after the shooting and transported Johnson back to Altus to help remove the victim’s body from the crime scene.
Bail was set at $250,000 each for Johnson and Fields. Bail was set at $500,000 each for Smith and Torres. The four suspects are being held at the Jackson County Jail.
This story will be updated as new details emerge during the investigation.
