Hat of Salvation

These last few weeks, I have been doing a sort of cowboy version of the armor Paul taught about in his letter to the church at Ephesus. This week we continue with the Salvation Stetson if you will. Yep, there is a spiritual battle taking place for folks who live for Christ. A spiritual battle goes not against flesh and blood, but against the evil one, Satan, and his demons. If we’re ever going to win this battle we going to have to armed and ready.

We’ve looked at a few parts of the Spiritual Armor so far:

1) Buckle up with the Cowboy Belt of Truth,

2) Button up with the Vest of Righteousness,

3) Slip on the Boots of The Gospel, and

4) The Shield of Faith.

This week it’s the Hat of Salvation!

Paul explains it Ephesians 6, telling about the pieces of armor required starting in verse 14: Ephesians 6:14-17

14 Stand firm therefore, HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH, and HAVING PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, 15 and having shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE; 16 in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. (nasb)

Yep, Paul refers to it as the helmet of salvation. In those days, the helmet was an important part of a soldier’s armor. The head was always a major target in battle. The cowboy hat is also important. It protects the head from the elements of sun searing heat as well as pouring down rain and bitter cold of a blizzard!

Well, the same holds true for the Christian who wants to protect his mind from the deceitful lies of the devil!

Satan wants to crush us mentally and spiritually by destroying our courage and confidence in our relationship with Christ, so protect yourself by putting on your hat of salvation in Christ! Now, Paul isn’t talkin’ about gettin’ saved, but he is talkin’ to folks who are already saved. There in Paul’s letter to the church at Ephesus, Paul is concerned about followers of Christ leaving their mind unprotected so that the devil can do some serious damage!

So how does this attack of the mind take place? One way the devil works you over is to get you to doubt your salvation. If you truly have salvation in Christ Jesus then you can’t lose it and it can’t be taken away. But Satan likes to place doubts in your mind and cause you to just feel slap out defeated. Well, don’t give the devil a foothold! He loves to come in and plant all sorts of doubt and confusion into a Christian’s mind, causing us to be confused and led astray! That’s why we need to stay connected with Christ. It’s important to stay in the word of God, the six shooter of the Spirit!

Some of y’all might be thinking, “But I’ve never given my life to Christ, I’m just not followin’ His trail. The devil ain’t my problem. It’s me. Just turn your life over to Him today. Invite Jesus to be Lord by placing your sins at the foot of the cross, repent, and follow Him.”

It’ll be the best thing you ever do! And then put on your armor and prepare for the battle!

Choose Jesus and choose life! Find a church where you “fit in” and serve Him and grow in Christ!

See y’all at church and keep PRAYIN’ for HIS HARVEST! Amen
