Armor requires prayer

I’ve been writing about the Full Armor of God, cowboy style. If we are going to be ready to go into battle against the devil, then we must wear the full armor much like a soldier did 2,000 years ago. I wrote of the belt of truth, the vest of righteousness, boots of the gospel of peace, the duster of faith, hat of salvation, and the Bowie knife of the Spirit.

Well, today we are going to look at one more part of the armor as shared by Paul!

Prayer! The Cowboy’s Prayer

Cowboying is a dangerous livelihood, especially when one decides to enter rodeos, and even more so if a cowboy decides to ride bulls!

A cowboy must be prepared and he must be ready. Same is true for the Christian, cowboy or not. Why? Because we are going up against the dark power, the devil. He has the power to crush our hopes, our dreams, and our families.

But if we are prepared, if we are wise, and if we are armed spiritually with all the armor of God, he will be defeated! Let’s look at what Paul had to share in Ephesians 6 concerning prayer as part of the armor.

18 With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints, 19 and pray on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in proclaiming it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. (nasb)

We can put on the armor, but if we don’t pray for the strength to fight we may not have the energy to carry said armor rendering us defeated! Prayer is what brings the energy and power to our fight! Paul answers a lot of questions about prayer for us there in 18 through 20.

First, look at the way we are to pray. We are to pray at all times in the Spirit! When we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit comes in and resides in us. He is our counselor, our guide, our conviction, our helper. The Holy Spirit empowers us to live our lives for Christ. He guides us to overcome temptation. He gives us the words we need to say. We say no to sin through His power! And we are able to forgive others through Him!

The Gift of prayer is THE weapon of those who have trusted in Christ and live for Him…

Without Christ, there is no Holy Spirit power, and He doesn’t hear prayers. Follow Christ and have life to the fullest! He also doesn’t listen to the prayer of a Christian Living in deliberate sin and refusing to repent. The Lord blesses and answers the prayers of those who know and live for Him! And He listens to and responds to the lost who pray seeking salvation!

What can we pray for? We are to pray for anything according to His will! Luke 11:9-10

9 “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 10 “For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened. (nasb)

If you are wearing the armor, but don’t have the strength to carry it for very long, pray.

You fight the devil, but you don’t always seem to win, pray.

Be ready, pray! Prayer is our most precious weapon as a Christian. Ask God today to increase your passion for prayer!!

Choose Jesus and choose life! Find a church where you “fit in” and serve Him and grow in Christ! See y’all at church and keep PRAYIN’ for HIS HARVEST! Amen
