The Frederick Middle School softball team played a home game at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 22.
The game started off rocky with Fletcher scoring on a wild pitch in the first inning. Deuana Miller and Harley Akin both had good at bats, but with good fielding by Fletcher, both girls were out.
The Lady Bombers finally got on base when Jenna Thornton was pitched four balls. She jogged to first base.
While Paige Orr was setting up at the plate, Thornton stole second. The pitcher threw to second base but the second baseman missed the ball, allowing Thornton to make a mad dash to third. The second baseman recovered the ball, throwing it to third so Thornton ran back to second but not before the second baseman threw it back to third. While the third baseman was recovering the ball, Thornton made it safely to third before finally stealing home, tying the game at 1-1.
Akin tagged out a would be base-stealer, ending the second inning with the game still tied.
Jolee McIntyre got a solid hit and made it safely to first base and stole second, but no one scored in the second inning.
The Lady Bombers made some fielding errors that allowed Fletcher to score several times in the third inning, which brought the score to 4-1.
With the threat of rain moving in fast, the game ended early. The Lady Bombers middle school team will get a re-do against Fletcher at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at home.
