The American Third Army liberated Buchenwald, a Nazi concentration camp, on April 11, 1945. The camp was located near Weimar, Germany. Reports say that the horrors and atrocities imposed on prisoners of Buchenwald ae only second to Auschwitz.

April is National Volunteer Month and there’s no better time to shine a spotlight on the thousands of volunteers who bring life to programs offered through Oklahoma State University Extension. For 110 years, OSU Extension has been working to make the lives of Oklahomans better.

The top seven wheat varieties planted in Oklahoma in 2024 were developed at Oklahoma State University, according to the USDA- National Agricultural Statistics Service’s annual report. This is the 10th consecutive year that OSU varieties have ranked in the top seven varieties planted statewide.

The SWOSU Physics and Engineering Club’s Rocket Dawgs claimed their third consecutive Argonia Cup title on Sunday, March 24. The Argonia Cup, an annual rocketry competition held in the Rocket Pasture near Argonia, Kansas each spring, saw participation from eighteen university teams this year. Among the competitors were schools such as Auburn University, University of Oklahoma, Texas A&M University, the University of Tennessee, and the University of Missouri.

Wildfires that scorched the Oklahoma and Texas panhandles in late February ravaged livestock forage, destroyed homes, barns and other structures, and killed hundreds of animals. Oklahoma State University Extension specialists and members of the Disaster Assistance Response Team have gathered data over the past month to grasp the impact of 16 fires that burned within three days.

The Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association (OCA) has made an official request to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry (ODAFF) to register KAPUT Feral Hog Bait for use in Oklahoma. The OCA request letter says, “Feral swine cause millions of dollars of damage to Oklahoma property through their destructive behaviors destroying range, pasture and hay lands.

Cameron University’s Visiting Writer’s Series continues on Friday, April 26, with poet Wendy Dunmeyer. The author will read samples of her work starting at 7 p.m. in Room 2005 in Nance-Boyer Hall.
