FORT TOWSON, Okla. — The Fort Towson Historic Site will host an eclipse watch party with a period encampment on Monday, April 8, from 8 a.m.
In an effort to quell the growing unrest towards Congress, General George Washington made a surprise visit to officers at Newburgh, New York, on March 15, 1783, during an assembly of army officers.
Officers were reportedly angry with Congress for failing to honor its promise to pay them and for its failure to settle accounts for repayment of food and clothing. Officers began circulating an anonymous letter condemning Congress and calling for a revolt.
