First Groundhog Day celebrated

The first Groundhog Day was celebrated Feb. 2, 1887. Punxsutawney, Penn. newspaper editor Clymer Freas came up with the idea and presented the idea to a group of groundhog hunters—known collectively as the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club. The group visited Gobbler’s Knob, where the inaugural groundhog became the bearer of bad news when he saw his shadow.

Oklahoma Hall of Fame offers $770,000 in scholarships for high school students across the State

The Oklahoma Scholarship Competition is currently underway, offering more than $770,000 in cash scholarships and tuition grants for high school students in Oklahoma. Through the competition, students in grades 9 through 12 test their knowledge of Oklahoma history, geography and its people.

Stand Straight!

Don’t be all womper jawed or caddy wampus. Look in Amos 7. Y’all ever see a house that just didn’t look right because it actually was crooked? Or maybe you have seen a building that just wasn’t straight with the world. I’m not talking about the intentional landscape fitting one, but it’s the one that is like 6° off. I’ve found that, in building a structure, it’s important to get it straight and true. There are some things you can use to aid in this. Things such as a compass, square, tape measure, and level are all helpful if you know how to use ‘em. What about a plumb bob? Plum who? Well, it’s a line that hangs down through the center of a weighted object at the bottom. With the help of gravity, it shows what straight up and down looks like.
