Cross country coach holds informational meeting

The newly hired cross country coach at Western Oklahoma State College has scheduled an informational meeting for possible scholarship athletes, walk-ons, high school runners and coaches from western Oklahoma.

The meeting will be held beginning at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, in the WOSC gymnasium. The college is located at 2801 N. Main St. in Altus.

Cross Country Coach Rick Carpenter wants to work with area runners as they prepare over the summer for the fall cross country season. Not only does he want to visit with potential runners at WOSC, he said he also wants to visit with high school competitors and coaches and advise them on a summer running program that can benefit the runners.

WOSC will field its first cross country team in the fall of 2022.

Carpenter has said that he wants to recruit students who attend schools in western Oklahoma. For more information about the program, send an email to the coach at [email protected] Or call Carpenter at 580-480-5409.

Carpenter is a former all-American miler and cross-country captain for the University of Oklahoma.
