Frederick Press-Leader sold to Wesner Media Group

Scott Wesner and Scott Wood, owners of Wesner Media, purchased the Frederick Press-Leader, the Altus Times, and the Mangum Star Aug. 1, 2022.

The natives of Cordell are excited to be working in an area they love and where they grew up.

Along with Publisher Josh Umholtz, Wesner and Wood bring new energy and enthusiasm to the Press-Leader.

“We are so excited to be a part of the tradition of journalism in southwest Oklahoma,” Wesner said. “Having grown up in Oklahoma, it’s great to work in a state we know best.”

Wesner said their focus is “producing an excellent newspaper.” The goal is to keep the emphasis on local hands-on stories and photos of sports and events.

The new owners recognize the value of having a traditional paper covering local news, which is not available anywhere else.

“We know there have been many changes in the past few years. We will be here for a long time,” Wesner said.

“Nothing is more important to a community than a quality newspaper,” he said.
