Frederick teacher receives agriculture books through OKFB’s Bushels for Books

Crystal Ostermann of the Prather-Brown Center was recently selected to receive a bushel basket of accurate agriculture books as part of Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s Bushels for Books program. A collaboration between the OKFB Foundation for Agriculture and the OKFB Women’s Leadership Committee, Bushels for Books is designed to spread agriculture literacy to children around the state through providing a selection of books that accurately portray the agriculture industry.

The origins of Halloween go back centuries

Almost every year a petition starts going around to get the date of Halloween changed to the last Saturday of October, thereby changing the holiday to one that doesn’t have a fixed date. Comments on the stories posted to social media usually range from indignation at the very thought of moving Halloween, to those who agree with the petitions, stating that children shouldn’t be out on a school night, and a few who knew why the date shouldn’t be changed, and that is because it’s All Hallows Eve. Not because it’s a hundreds of years old tradition, but an actual religious holiday.

The Frederick Public Works Authority receives $900,000 grant for system improvements

The Frederick Public Works Authority (Authority) received approval for $900,000 in funding Tuesday from the Oklahoma Water Resources Board (OWRB) to improve the Authority’s water infrastructure. Construction of upgrades and improvements to the water system will be financed by the Oklahoma American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant program.
