Oklahoma Arts Institute chosen as J. Jerry Dickman Award for Excellence Winner

The Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits hosted its 17th Annual Oklahoma Nonprofit Excellence (ONE) Awards on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, OK. The event honored 21 nonprofits from throughout the state for superior leadership and exceptional service to their constituents and communities. At the awards, Oklahoma Arts Institute (OAI) was named the J. Jerry Dickman Award for Excellence Winner and was awarded a $10,000 grant sponsored by the George Kaiser Family Foundation and Tulsa Community Foundation. In addition, OAI was named the category winner for Arts & Humanities, sponsored by the Potts Family Foundation and Williams.

Grape Hyacinth:

The grape hyacinth is a common plant – or weed depending on who you ask - found in Oklahoma but there is some dissention because some see the purple flower as nothing more than a weed to get rid of but others see it as a flower that they enjoy having in their gardens. When asked if it would be fair to classify the grape hyacinth as the “bluebonnet of Oklahoma,” OSU Extension Specialist, Consumer Horticulture David Hillock said he wouldn’t say that was quite accurate.

Frederick Elementary teacher chosen for Colonial Williamsburg Teacher Institute Fellowship

Thirty-four Oklahoma fifthand eighth-grade teachers have been selected for fellowships to attend the Colonial Williamsburg Teacher Institute in June. The renowned teacher institute is held in and around Colonial Williamsburg, the restored capital city of 18th-century Virginia that is known as the world’s largest living history museum.
